At Wisedocs, we’re building a stellar team and we’re proud to introduce our team members over time through our monthly Wisedocs’ Brain Power series. Recently, we introduced you to  Olivia Ragosnig, one of our Quality Assurance (QA) Leads at Wisedocs. Today, we will meet Austin Gallant, our Financial & Administrative Coordinator.

Let’s get to know Austin!

Austin has been with Wisedocs for roughly 3 years and 4 months. He holds a BBA degree where he majored in accounting.

In his free time, Austin enjoys playing golf and hockey, gardening, spending time with his family, watching Mixed Martial Arts and anything to do with being outdoors.

Tell us about your career so far. What brought you to Wisedocs?

“I started off looking to major in finance but once I got a taste of accounting, I couldn’t resist so I switched my major.
I’ve learned so much since I first started here. Wisedocs has helped me take my career to the next level, and constantly provides me with opportunities for development. Working here, I’ve become a better person, employee and co-worker.”

In today’s market, the desire to learn, grow, and find mentorship is top of mind for employees. In fact, “40% of Gen Zers are willing to accept a pay cut” if it means more opportunities for development. At Wisedocs, we take this seriously and we do everything we can to help our employees grow.

What sparked your interest in the tech startup world?

“Technology has had a huge impact on my life and I’m constantly blown away with how much it can facilitate innovation.

I’ve always been interested in startup culture because Startups are usually trend setters when it comes to business. Being part of a startup is like being part of a community which makes work life much more enjoyable to me.”

When employees feel a sense of belonging at work, their organizations can experience:

We know it's a win-win to make sure our employees feel a sense of community, that's why we plan initiatives for our employees, like our virtual game night.

Tell us about your experience so far working at Wisedocs

“My journey with Wisedocs began when I was looking for an internship. Lucky for me, Wisedocs was growing and had an opportunity for an internal bookkeeper.

Helping bring real change to people’s lives is very fulfilling. Wisedocs allows me to do this indirectly as the software helps to alleviate some of the pressure that our Canadian medical system and medical professionals are experiencing.”

Share with us a day in the life of Wisedocs' Financial & Administrative Coordinator

“I start the day off by responding to critical emails. 2/3rd of my day is spent working on accounting and finance tasks like bookkeeping, budgeting, AP, or payroll. The rest of my time is typically devoted to operational tasks which can introduce unpredictability to my week.

Between all this, I troubleshoot problems for my colleagues and ensure that everyone is set up for success.

My job allows me to get to know each department. This helps me build context of the businesses needs, and informs how I can provide impactful solutions to problems that come up!”

What advice would you give to aspiring finance professionals looking to break into the tech startup world?

“I would suggest looking for internships to get their foot in the door. Internships are a win-win for someone who is looking to get into the startup world because it gives them a chance to prove their worth while gaining practical experience.”
