Meet Michael Wang, a valuable member of the Wisedocs team and one our Medical Documentation Specialists. With an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology & Health Science from York University, Michael brings a unique blend of healthcare expertise and has branched into more tech-focused responsibilities. In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing basketball, guitar, and loves to meet new people.  Let's dive deeper into Michael's journey, his motivation, and his vast contributions here at Wisedocs.

Tell us about your career so far, how did you get to where you are today?

"I first gained experience in this field at York University by helping my professor closely as an undergraduate research assistant. I really enjoyed my time there, and it gave me the experience I needed to come work at Wisedocs."

How did you end up in the tech and startup world?

"I was looking for a job in the healthcare field and stumbled upon Wisedocs. I admired the company’s core values along with how they fused 2 of my passions – healthcare and tech! The opportunity to work remotely also grabbed my attention as it seemed like a safer way to work during the pandemic."

Michael has been embracing the tech and startup world. After working closely with the engineering team here at Wisedocs, Michael decided to go back to school for Computer Science to further his education in this area.

What makes you excited about Wisedocs? What are the challenges?

"What makes me excited about Wisedocs are the problems the company solves and the number of different lives we can impact and improve through our work. I believe we can genuinely make a difference and help to get people’s lives back on track faster. Some challenges we face are increasing our reach and brand awareness in order to help more people."

At Wisedocs, we all are working together to achieve our mission of creating a more positive and streamlined experience for all those involved in the claims ecosystem, including insurance companies, legal firms, healthcare providers, and their claimants. When employees see the value they create within their company’s mission, they see increased productivity and higher company success. Here at Wisedocs, our entire team is in-tune with the realities of how our platform transforms the claims process by automating and streamlining the manual and time-consuming process of medical record reviews, helping everyone win.

You recently decided to further your education and career, Congrats! Can you share your decision to pursue computer science and what drives you?

"My idea to pursue computer science came from seeing the creative ways the developer team tackled different problems and their thought processes on how to problem solve. I found it fascinating to see how quickly our tech was improving, and it really piqued my interest and influenced me to research computer science outside of work. This led to me going back to school for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and I hope to become a software developer when I graduate."

You have started assisting with the developers and engineering team at Wisedocs, why do you think it is important to collaborate across teams?

"It is definitely integral to collaborate across teams as it gives an opportunity for knowledge exchange where different teams can have fresh perspectives and ideas on how to solve problems. By collaborating, different teams can directly address problems together instead of going through multiple slower channels. Working together also fosters a better environment where everybody knows each other and is happy to help. Lastly, collaboration across teams is a great way to increase the growth of your employees as it could lead to learning new skills or even a change in careers, such as in my case."

At Wisedocs, we encourage our team members to collaborate across teams and explore professional development. In a recent study, 40% of workers say career progression matters most in a job and when employees feel their professional advancement is met, they’re happier. Our Marketing Associate, Amy Mingopoulos, also developed her career at Wisedocs by transitioning into a marketing role.

What part of the Wisedocs are you most proud to have worked on, to date? What is your biggest achievement you celebrate here?

"My biggest achievement to date here at Wisedocs is starting as a Medical Documentation Specialist and being able to learn about the more tech-oriented side of the business and slowly transitioning into a more tech-centric role. I am most proud to have worked on our workflows, which we use to help sort our customers’ documents quickly and in their own custom way."

Michael's dedication, passion for healthcare and technology, and eagerness to learn have made him an invaluable asset to the Wisedocs team. As he continues to pursue his education and explore new horizons, Michael's contributions will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the company and its mission to improve lives through innovative solutions. We are proud to have him as part of our team at Wisedocs.
