Do you work in the claims industry? If you do, you may know about the many organizations designed to bring together players in the claims space. Whether it’s networking, social events, conferences, or educational opportunities, joining these organizations is a great way for you and your colleagues to stay up to date on what’s going on in your industry — as well as improve the industry as a whole.

Here are 5 organizations to join in the insurance claims space:

Canadian Health and Life Insurance Association (CHLIA)

Insurance providers might already be familiar with the Canadian Health and Life Insurance Association, otherwise known as the CHLIA. This not-for-profit organization represents 99% of life and health insurance companies. Whether it’s group insurance, individual health coverage, or group annuity programs like pension funds or RRSPs, the CHLIA is open to any life or health insurance company or (insurance related organization) doing business in Canada.

By supporting and taking part in the CHLIA’s activities, you can help influence crucial aspects of the industry, including federal and provincial legislation and tax. They also offer insurance industry networking opportunities and events for insurance companies!

Risk Management Society (RIMS)

The Risk Management Society (RIMS) is a global not-for-profit organization for risk management practitioners. Through the organization’s many opportunities for professional development, networking, and education, it offers members in over 60 countries an opportunity to advance their careers.

Be sure to check out their risk management magazine, educational webinars, and certification programs. If you’re looking to get out of the office, plan on attending one of their upcoming events — you might just meet someone new!

Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association (OIAA)

Founded in 1930, the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association (OIAA) is an opportunity for Ontario’s insurance providers to influence provincial trends in the insurance industry. Insurers in Ontario can attend OIAA events, their annual OIAA claims conference and trade show, take advantage of Ontario insurance networking opportunities and get educated on industry developments to come.

Don’t miss their monthly edition of WP (Without Prejudice) Magazine, which includes articles from professionals across the industry and the province!

Insurance Claims Association (ICA)

The Insurance Claims Association is one of the oldest organizations in the claims space. Having been around for over 100 years, they know a thing or two about what to expect when working in life, health, and disability insurance. Whether you’re an insurer, a lawyer, or an Independent Medical Examiner (IME), the ICA offers claims education, an ICA job bank, opportunities to connect with other members, and plenty research on the insurance claims industry

Canadian Insurance Claims Managers Association (CICMA)

If you’re interested in making a difference in the claims space, make sure to check out the CICMA. This organization sets out to promote cooperation amongst claims industry participants, exchange information, and promote a high standard of ethics when handling claims.

They also provide arbitration for insurance claim disputes, hold meetings and other insurance related events, offer speaker sessions and discussion groups, as well as  facilitate claims industry networking opportunities

Wisedocs is joining organizations in the claims space

So far, the Wisedocs team is proud to take part in OIAA (and their upcoming Toronto event!) and we are always looking for new ones to participate in. Organizations to join in the claims space are not just helpful for networking and staying up to date in the industry plus finding events to participate in, they’re also crucial for keeping you and your organization informed. If you're an organization spanning legal, insurance, or medical in the claims space, get in touch with our team! We're always looking for new organizations to join.
