10 Ways Clinical Expertise Enhances the AI Medical Record Summary

When AI error rates were introduced, patients had greater sympathy for the radiologist. 

AI is a powerful tool, but it’s not magic. When used as a complement to clinical judgement, you can achieve the best of the two: human input dramatically reduces AI error rates, and AI input complements the human’s clinical skill. 

2. Clinical judgement and context

Imagine a patient takes a short fall down a flight of stairs. The AI medical record summary points out the injury to the patient’s hip, the swelling, and the treatment. It lists a new blood pressure medication under the medication history, but it does not connect the two. 

Clinical judgement, context, and a holistic viewpoint would catch what was missed by AI: new blood pressure medication could have caused some lightheadedness.
